Stay Woke!!! Prevent Gerrymandering as They Redistrict Our Communities

Opposition to and control of gerrymandering in the process of Redistricting, requires the untiring, unified, multi-sector coalition, deep scrutiny, physical documentation – in writing, and consensus this year from communities of voters.  Redistricting will impact community political control of grants, resource allocation, development projects, and more... for the next 10 years – based on the 2020 Census.

The National Conference of State Legislatures reports that “32 (64%) of states have no legal limits on gerrymandering.  Hence, “The Brooklyn Waffle” pp. 129-130 Activating Social Solutions…2nd Ed. Our elected Congresspersons and State Legislators are required to research and analyze census populations in their districts and redraw boarders based on new totals.  Very often, they make these decisions for planning major projects in favor of individuals, communities, neighborhoods, in the interests of big private investment companies and individuals who supported the campaigns that got them elected.

Thomas Hofeller, the Redistricting Chair of the Republican National Committee, stated "Redistricting is like an election in reverse. It's a great event. Usually, the voters get to pick the politicians. In redistricting, the politicians get to pick the voters.” in reference to the 2000 Census.

The National Conference of State Legislatures sponsored its virtual Seminar on Redistricting, which has already taken place, January 6-8, 2021.   Outside Advocates and interested members of the public would have been able to register and attend the events for $395.00.  Viewers would have been able to learn about “redistricting law, policies and procedures, setting a foundation upon which to build further expertise as the seminar continues.”  https://www.ncsl.org/research/redistricting/ncsl-virtual-redistricting-seminar-jan-6-8-2021.aspx
